Patients who are 18-years and older who require 24-hour-a-day care or supervision for a psychiatric disorder will be admitted to our behavioral medicine department. 

We provide assessments and evaluations for people 60 years and older who experience sudden behavioral changes or other age-related problems. Their stay will include a variety of the following treatments:

  • Individual, group and/or family therapy
  • Medication evaluation
  • Medication therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Social work services
  • Stress management
  • Treatment planning

Women's Behavioral Unit at St. Joseph Medical Center Designed for Today's Busy Women

The Women's Behavioral Unit at St. Joseph Medical Center has been specifically designed to meet the needs of today's multi-tasking women. A serene and holistic environment has been created that is conducive to assist women hospitalized for mood disorders.

 

 

If you are experiencing insomnia, feel isolated or unable to cope, lack interest in things that used to bring you pleasure, have a decreased appetite, are coping with personality changes or are having thoughts of harm to self or others, the Women's Behavioral Unit may be just what the doctor ordered.

The Women's Behavioral Unit has 19 private room accommodation for women 18 years of age and older. Treatment modalities offered are process and cognitive groups, therapeutic recreation, nursing education, relaxation group, dance/movement therapy as well as individual and family therapy. Amenities for this unit include daily newspaper, journal, fruit basket, inspirational book, and a relaxation CD.

Does it sound like the right fit?
To be admitted, you must have no history of violence, the ability to live independently, strong family support, and the willingness and ability to participate in all treatment modalities. Pregnant women will be accepted provided there are no other medical exclusionary criteria.

Talk to your physician if you think you qualify for admission. We welcome inquiries from prospective patients and their families. Referrals may be made by physicians, health professionals and community agencies. For information please call 713-757-7512 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Payment of the insurance deductible plus an additional daily fee for a 7 day stay is expected at time of admission. The daily charge will be prorated if the patient is discharged prior to 7 days.
